Students will examine the diverse contexts in which social educators operate—from schools and community centers to shelters and care facilities—and reflect on the emotional, cognitive, and relational competencies that define effective practice. The course emphasizes the importance of empathy, autonomy, and social transformation as guiding principles in educational intervention. Objectives: Understand the role of the social educator in formal, non-formal, and informal contexts. Identify key personal and professional qualities essential for working with vulnerable groups. Analyze the functions of social educators in settings such as juvenile centers, schools, and community programs. Reflect on the ethical and emotional dimensions of social education, including empathy, assertiveness, and patience. Explore legal and institutional frameworks that support the profession, such as Law 41/2006 and professional codes of ethics. Develop strategies for intervention, accompaniment, and empowerment in diverse social environments.
