Storytelling Course

BEATRIZ CABRERA

For round three months, I have been doing a course on Digital Storytelling. At first, when I knew about the existance of this course, I was quite attracted by it since storytelling is interesting per se, but I did not know how storytelling could be taught digitally. Therefore, I decided to enroll at it and I was one of the lucky ones to start it.

The course has been divided into five modules, each one equally challenging: digital literacy, citizenship safety, sharing stories through comics, video storytelling, storytelling with mobile devices... A set of useful tools which can be easily brought into the classroom since it entails a tricky and innovative way of telling a story both by practising English and developing Students' digital competence. What else can be demanded? Next, I am describing several items which just try to make a brief analysis of my impressions on the course:

As for the objectives I have achieved, there are basically three that conform the biggest part of my learning process: tools to work on in a classroom context, the creation of stories through a digital support and editing videos with vintage effects that look quite professional. Moreover, this course has also brought about the learning of some resources like AUP, I Can Cards and Creative Commons.

Regarding accomplishments,  I am more than satisfied since I did not expect to learn so much in such a brief range of time. I would highly recommend this course for anyone having the chance to do it, because s/he can take a great advantage of it.

One evidence of my learning is I have already started using some tools with my Learners in class such as both the creation of a wall in Padlet and Voxopop for them to design a story. Moreover, as part of the different projects Learners will carry out, they will have to use some other tools like Simplebooklet to create a digital book of a variety of topics.

Finally, I must admit that two of my favourite modules are the one dealing with the creation of a chain story which implies the participation of several people and videostorytelling, which gave us the chance to become familiar with video editors both in a web based version and app.

To sum up, as storytelling means word of mouth, I am going to start to "gossip" about this course so that it is more and more implemented in foreign language lessons and I stronglt promise I won't make use of Chinese whispers... ;)

Thanks a lot to these people who have made it possible.
